Saved Money

Was as easy as advertised to make the switch. I was paying over $50 a month for Total Connect remote control service for my Honeywell LynxTouch. Quick and easy cutting my bill to just $16 using WIFI. Wish I knew this earlier!!!

Great Support When Needed

Great range of Alarm.com options. I’ve been researching security company pricing to monitor my 2GIG GC2 and by far these guys bundle in the most features while keeping pricing very competitive.  Tech Support is EXCELLENT.

Pays To Look Around

Switched over both my primary home and vacation home saving almost $400 a year over the alarm dealer I used for the past five years. My fault for not looking around sooner. Very easy and painless to switch companies.  Thanks again Chris and Andrew!!!

Choose Your Monitoring Service

Your system’s “communicator” will dictate which monitoring service to select below.  For example if you have an Alarm.com cellular communicator you would choose one of our Alarm.com plans. Likewise If you have a Honeywell AlarmNet communicator you would choose our AlarmNet service unless you change your communicator to match the desired service.

We monitor many popular panel brands and models from industry giants such as Honeywell, Qolsys, 2GIG, DSC, Alula, and GE/Interlogix.

Requirements to switch dealers

Installer Code – Be sure to know your panel’s Installer Code before signing up.  This special code allows access into panel programming. In most cases dealers cannot get you setup without it.  Use the following link to test your Installer Code – How To Check If My Alarm Installer Code Is Valid.

Communicator Address – Dealers register your IP or cellular communicator using a unique address tied to your hardware.  The previous dealer must release this address before you can transfer service to a new dealer.  Alarm.com communicators use an IMEI address while AlarmNet and Alula communicators use a MAC address.  Landline service has no such restriction but does require a working dial-tone at the alarm panel for service.

  • For hardwired panels open your external communicator cover (white plastic box) and copy down the MAC/CRC or IMEI address printed on a sticker inside.  The external communicator is usually mounted next to the metal box with all of the alarm wiring.
  • For wireless panels (all-in-one) use this link to find this info from your keypad: Find My MAC/CRC or IMEI Address.

For Dispatch Monitoring plans our UL central station dispatchers need the telephone numbers to call you when verifying an alarm signal before calling your local police, fire, or medical departments, what passcode you want to use so they know its really you, and how you and others want to be notified if there is a dispatch – phone, text, email.

We also need information related to your alarm panel such as brand and model, and if using a service other than landline we’ll need your communicator’s MAC/CRC or IMEI (Alarm.com only) to get your communicator registered with the appropriate service.  Check the information in Step #1 for MAC/CRC or IMEI addresses.

FAQ – How Do I Save Money?

Important Questions and Considerations

Switching alarm monitoring providers is not difficult, but many providers don’t want you leaving and attempt to make it so.  We offer a much lower cost for real UL central station security monitoring, no required contracts, and overall better, friendly technical support.  We are here answering our phones 7 days a week.  Does your existing alarm dealer do that without being on hold for an hour for a simple question?

  • Are you under an existing alarm monitoring contract?  Be careful because many dealer contracts have auto renewal provisions that may lock you in for another 3 to 5 years at high pricing.  Also its common to have a 30 or 60 day termination notification period.  Are there any hidden termination fees they failed to mention?  Local dealers and even national dealers such as ADT and Brinks make a LOT of money on alarm monitoring contracts so they will make it as hard as possible for their customers to switch.
  • Do you own your alarm equipment?  Another reason to read your existing alarm agreement carefully.  Some dealers offer “free” home security systems when you sign up for their multiyear alarm monitoring plans.  Obviously nothing is free.  In this case the alarm company owns the main equipment such as control panel, keypad, motion sensor.  Anything additional you would own but if you don’t renew their high priced plan they’ll remove “their” equipment leaving you with no working alarm system. Just another sneaky method to retain highly profitable accounts.
  • Do you already have a 4G or 5G LTE cellular communicator?  This can be either as part of a plugin wireless system module or hardwired addon unit. Your alarm panel using a cellular communicator actually “talks” with an Interactive Services (IS) provider not the central station directly.  3G has already been turned off by US carriers so any non-LTE cellular communicator would need to be replaced. This would not apply to WIFI or Ethernet IP connections.

It is important to understand what alarm panel model you currently have as well as what Interactive Services provider is/was used. A cellular communicator compatible with Honeywell Alarmnet (Total Connect 2) will not work with any other provider such as Alula or Alarm.com.  Communicators are built for a particular Interactive Services provider, they are not universal unfortunately.  In general this is not a problem if you already like the Interactive Service Provider you are using other than the price your current alarm dealer is charging for this service.

BEWARE: Many large national alarm companies such as ADT, Xfinity, and Verint use proprietary hardware which will ONLY work with their central station.  This is the latest method used to “lock” customers in to their expensive alarm monitoring.  If this is the case then a replacement cellular communicator or even system may be required. Also ADT cameras will only work with their service and are not transferable.

  • Do you know the “Installer Code” for your alarm panel?   In many cases the installing alarm company did not provide this important code despite you owning the equipment.  The Installer Code is used to get into the programming area of your security system.  Since the Account Number used for the central station will need to be modified getting into Program Mode is necessary.

If you do not know the Installer Code nicely ask your existing or previous alarm company for this code.  They know what it is since they used it to put their account information into your panel.  In some cases dealers will want to send a technician to your home to reset the code to the manufacturer’s default code and of course charge you for the visit ($100 – $150).  There is no reason why they can’t tell you this code over the phone or reset the code remotely. This is a very common tactic to bill you one last time.

Depending on the brand and model alarm control panel you own there may be a “back door” into your panel’s Program Mode if the Installer Code is not known.  Many Honeywell panels for example have an easy way to get into Program Mode if the code was forgotten or not provided.  Others however must be “factory reset” meaning it erases all current configuration (zones, passcodes, etc.) and acts like a new alarm panel out of the box.  Reprogramming the panel is generally not something you want to tackle on your own and may require a local dealer to assist.  Hopefully you know the Installer Code or can get it from the previous dealer without hassle.

** If you have a Honeywell brand alarm panel check our page on how to reset your panel’s Installer Code using the back door method.  Every brand panel has a default Installer Code which can also be tried, but many dealers change it to keep a customer locked in.

See this page for How To Check If Your Alarm Installer Code Is Valid.

Easy Same-Day Alarm Monitoring Takeover

  1. John P. says:

Super easy activation process. Signed up online and fully protected in an hour. Incredibly efficient tech support team! I was using Brinks to monitor my Qolsys IQ2 alarm panel for $55/month but now paying $20/month with control of my z-wave automation things such as thermostat and door lock. My neighbor turned me on the SHC when my Brinks contract was expiring and so glad he did. Great savings for the same service with Alarm.com.

  2. Chuck says:

Currently using Next Alarm for monitoring and they are discontinuing business. Have a Vista panel and know the installer code… my question is the broadband adaptor I currently use and is it compatible with your service? Vonets HT-600 Ver 7.0.3

  3. Jacob W. says:

Was as easy as advertised to make the switch. I was paying $50 a month for Total Connect remote control service for my Honeywell Lynx Touch using WIFI. Quick and painless cutting my bill to just $16. Wish I knew I could do this sooner!!!

  4. Jon U. says:

Now saving over $250 per year by using these people. The help over the phone was excellent and was easier to switch than expected. Very pleased. I have a Honeywell hardwired panel and using Total Connect 2 for remote arming and disarming which my wife and I love.

  5. Keith C. says:

I didn’t realize until talking to my neighbor that there are online alarm dealers offering basically the same service as my installing dealer at half the price! Not difficult to make a change and all questions I asked were answered in full (these people know their stuff). Highly recommended. I have a Honeywell Vista-20P using cellular.

  6. John K. says:

Absolutely fantasic customer service! The people are friendly and knowledgabe and better yet, patient with a non-technical person like me. Was able to get my older Honeywell Vista alarm reprogrammed using my phone line to their central station easily with help over the phone. Testing was smooth and fast and got a certificate for my insurance company as soon as we finished. Cut my annual monitoring bill in half!

  7. Bob S. says:

Signed up for Alarm.com service for my Simon XTi and was active with their service an hour later. The company that installed my alarm went out of business so I was on the hunt for a new monitoring company. These people are $18 a month cheaper and been in business three decades so I’m comfortable giving them a try. Wish I had looked earlier but frankly didnt realize I could save money until forced to look when my dealer folded.

  8. Drake K. says:

I added a SEM to my Honeywell Vista-20P after researching the benefits of Alarm.com on this site. I was using a 3G AT&T cellular communicator with Total Connect 2 and when it was time to upgrade to LTE I took the plunge with Alarm.com. Really glad I did. Lots of features I didnt have with TC and the ADC pricing was way better. I was able to cut $18/month off of my bill by moving to SafeHomeCentral. Configuring the new communicator was all done remotely by the tech guys and they were great to work with.

  9. Gary T. says:

I was using the local dealer who installed my system three years ago for alarm monitoring. I just moved over to SafeHomeCentral and saving $24 per month for the same EXACT service, even the same central station (COPS Monitoring)! I’ve been told alarm dealers make their real money from alarm monitoring and now know for sure this is true. The switch was painless since the tech was very knowledgable about my particular alarm system (Interlogix Simon XTi). Highly recommend!

  10. MaryEllen J. says:

Was an easy swap from ADT to SafeHomeCentral. I’m still using a landline but planning on going with cellular in the near future. I was able to reduce our monthly payment by $21 and no lock-in contract. Very happy saving money!

  11. Julie J. says:

Hello. I have a Honeywell Vista-15P that was monitored in the past but the dealer is out of business and I don’t know the “Installer Code”. Do I need to have someone come out to my home to figure out what the code is so I can get monitoring service again?

    • Chris says:

Hello Julie! Luckily there is a back door into Honeywell Vista panels so all is not lost. Its very easy to reset this code and we have instructions here to reset the Installer Code so you can reactivate service. If you are using a landline for connection to the central station then we can just guide you through a few simple programming changes (change to toll free numbers and account number to the central station) over the telephone. Landline alarm monitoring (no contract) is just $8.95.

If you want to use cellular alarm monitoring we can help you upgrade unless you already have a Honeywell cellular communicator in place. Adding one is only four wires to connect and we guide you through the connections. The advantage of cellular, other than the tamper-proof connection outside, is you can add Total Connect 2 for remote arming and disarming of your system from your cell, tablet, or PC. Give us a call if you need more assistance.

    • Tim says:

Hello Jacob. While redundant communication to AlarmNet and our central station is recommended there is no requirement and just going cellular is fine. Its a programmable setting in Lyric. Cellular is pretty reliable, tamper (line cut) proof, and the communicator module is powered by the backup battery in your Lyric panel in the event of power failure.

    • Chris says:

We recommend the Honeywell LTE-XA (AT&T) or LTE-XV (Verizon) communicators. They are the latest out and of course use the LTE network for high speed communication. We have universal communicators by Telguard (TG-1express) which works too but the Honeywell versions will allow us to also remote program your Vista panel using their Compass software if its ever needed. We can remote program any of our cellular communicators regardless of brand and at no charge when setting up alarm monitoring.

  12. Saul O. says:

I have a Honeywell Lynx Touch 7000 wireless panel that currently connects to my local monitoring company through the Internet. How can I add cellular and switch over to you guys?

    • Chris says:

Hi Saul! We have LTE communicators for the L7000 wireless panel which is easy to install yourself in about 5 minutes. We have LTE models in both ATT (LTE-L57A) and Verizon (LTE-L57V) flavors. You can continue to use your WIFI card and have redundant communication with our central station and Alarmnet (IP and Cell) or just go cell which is very reliable almost anywhere in the US unless you have very weak reception from the nearest tower.

To get started just signup for alarm monitoring here and select what options you need such as IP, Cell, or Both communication paths, Basic Interactive Services (remote arm/disarm with Total Connect 2), Enhanced Interactive Services which adds Z-Wave control, etc. We can generally get customers online same-day since its an easy process and only requires tripping a few zones to test communication. Give us a call if you need more Saul.

    • Dan says:

Hi Donna. To use Total Connect 2 you will need to be using either an IP Internet or cellular communicator. Total Connect 2 will not work via a landline connection. Your SafeWatch 3000 is really a rebranded Honeywell Vista-20P with modified (proprietary) firmware. We do however have a kit that converts your SafeWatch to a standard Vista-20P that will work with Total Connect 2. The kit comes with a LTE cellular communicator and a PROM chip that pops into the panel’s motherboard. Sounds complicated but it is not. We talk customers how to install both over the phone all the time. The communicator is just 4 wires to connect. We program the communicator remotely (no charge) to get you activated with AlarmNet for TC2 as well as our central station. There is an ATT kit and Verizon kit available.

  13. Charlie L. says:

I have a DSC PC1832 hard wired alarm system. Can you monitor this panel? I use a landline today but woud like to move to cellular and cancel my Verizon landline. What do you recommend for equipment and can I do this add-on myself?

    • Tim says:

Hi Charlie! We certainly can monitor your DSC panel and have several options for converting to cellular so you can save money monthly by not keeping a landline. We have a DSC 3G2060R which fits right into your panel enclosure and not difficult to install. A better option however is to use a Telguard TG1 which also works with your panel and is not only cheaper but LTE (rather than 3G). It connects to your panel’s phone line connection and let’s the system think its still using a landline when in reality the transmission is going over cellular. The Telguard TG1 comes in both AT&T (TG1LAX02) and Verizon (TG1LX001) LTE versions.

  14. Jeff H. says:

How long does it usually take to flip to your alarm monitoring service? I use VOIP today. May move to cellular at some point in the future but staying with dial-up for now.

    • Dan says:

Hi Jeff. We can usually activate a new monitoring account same day. We are here until 9pm EST 7 days a week. The process itself takes maybe 45 minutes which includes testing, the most important part! We like customers to trip several zones (definitely any life safety zones such as smoke or CO) to make sure signals are correctly received by the central station. Pretty painless. Just make an alarm monitorng purchase and be sure to complete our Enrollment Form for the central station (ex. telephone numbers to call to verify an alarm, zone list, verify password). We’ll contact you generally within 30 minutes to setup a time same day or when convenient.
