There are so many different types and makes of alarm system on the market today with different functionality and features. But there are essentially two main types of install and operation and these are hard wired and wireless. But which is best?
Traditionally, we associate a burglar alarm system as a wired-in system where cables are used to connect the various components of the alarm system. This is unduly the most reliable solution and will stand the test of time. However, the downside is that installation is a big job to carry out and most people opt for a professional installation which pushes the overall cost of your security system up.
You will be subject to significant disruption while work is taking place as walls will need to be channeled and floorboards and shirting lifted in order to lay the cabling for the system. Expect to have disruption for anything up to 5 days, depending on the size of your house and the total number of sensors that need to be wired. Another downside is if you want to add a sensor to your system in the future – maybe due to a house extension – you will have to get the installers back in and suffer disruption once again, as well as the cost.
On the other hand a wireless alarm system is a breeze to install. Most systems can be up and running within an hour or so and you can actually install them yourself – it's that easy. You will need to literally screw the devices to the wall, perform a little configuration while the main control panel 'learns' where its sensors are, and you are off and running. Also, future expansion is a breeze. If you wish to add more sensors to your system then all that is required to is screw it to the wall, learn it into the system and its done – what could be simpler?
Wireless security systems are ideal for rented accommodation as they can easily and quickly be de-installed when you move on to you next house or flat.
Of course, as you are carrying out this work yourself there will be zero installation costs. These days there is no excuse to not install a home alarm system as its so easy to carry out by yourself with a wireless home alarm system.
