ADT has used many different brands and models of alarm systems over the years but in many cases we can monitor your system at substantially lower monthly rates.  ADT systems include DSC, Honeywell, Interlogix, SafeWatch Pro 3000 and others.  We are DIY focused and can guide you through the process over the telephone and can generally remote program your system saving you from the cost and burden of a technician coming to your home.  We have been in the home security business for 35 years now and only use redundant UL certified central stations to securely and reliability protect your home.

Save Money

How to save money on alarm monitoring

For control panels with a working landline, alarm monitoring starts at only $8.95.  If using Internet its $12.95, and for cellular just $14.95.  We have many options for interactive services (remote control of your alarm system via cell phone app) that vary with make and model of your existing system.

NOTE: As with any alarm monitoring takeover it is necessary to know the “Installer Code” for your particular alarm panel.  This important code is used to modify the account number and telephone numbers (for landlines) programmed into the alarm panel.  If this code is unknown its an easy matter to reset the code for example with Honeywell systems.  With others the “default” installer code may still be active.  If in doubt give us a call to understand if your Installer Code can be reset or use this link to see if the default Installer Code is still active.

Keep Your Existing Alarm Equipment

ADT-Safewatch-Pro-3000-Keypad

All existing equipment such as the alarm panel, keypads, sensors, etc. can still be used with our service.  The only potential exception is an Internet or cellular alarm communicator which if installed originally by ADT are proprietary and can only be used with an expensive ADT central station.  The good news this single component is easy to replace allowing you to save significantly month after month.

Surveillance

Security cameras are proprietary to the interactive service company in use.  This means if you have ADT surveillance cameras they can ONLY be used with ADT interactive services.  The ADT salesman probaby forgot to mention this critical detail in the sales presentation.

Affordable Landline UL Central Station Alarm Monitoring

POTS Landline Telephone Alarm Monitoring

We continue to provide quality UL central station alarm monitoring for thousands of customers across the US since 1987.  While remote control of your security and home automation system from a smartphone is today’s top monitoring feature, for others however a truly low cost way to provide safety for their family is all that is needed.  We provide an alarm monitoring certificate for your insurance company necessary to receive up to a 30% discount on your annual premium because you are using a UL central station to watch over your home. There is no lengthy contract commitment with any of our alarm monitoring plans!

If using VoIP (Voice over IP) through your Internet Service Provider (ISP) be sure this phone line is correctly connected to your alarm panel using an RJ31X jack.  In most cases unless you specifically request the new digital telephone line be connected to your alarm panel it is not!  Also be aware because VoIP is highly compressed by your ISP for voice communication, VoIP is not considered a reliable communication medium for digital alarm signals.

Affordable Interactive UL Central Station Alarm Monitoring

IP Internet WIFO Alarm Monitoring
ADC Interactive Services
Cellular Alarm Monitoring

We offer discounted cellular and IP Internet interactive services with real UL central station alarm monitoring that will work with basically every professional alarm system on the market.  The cellular/Internet communicator installed in your system is what determines what service we use to transmit your alarm signals and interactive commands (remote arm/disarm, home automation, video) to our central station and your smartphone app or PC.  We are authorized dealers with Alarm.com, Honeywell AlarmNet, SecureNet, Alula, Telguard, UpLink, and Connect24.

In some cases the communicator in use is proprietary to the alarm company (such as ADT or Vivint for example) and would need to be replaced.  This generally means replacing just the communicator, not the whole alarm panel.  Non professional-grade systems such as Ring or SimpliSafe can ONLY be monitored by the manufacturer directly.  There is no option to use outside dealers such as SafeHomeCentral with their equipment.

For Interactive Service providers other than Alarm.com and Honeywell AlarmNet which are the big guys on the block we also partner with multiple other quality services which may be tied to specific systems.  For example the Alula Connect+ (AKA Helix) can only use SecureNet or Alula for interactive services. Interactive Self-Monitoring

Same great Alarm.com features just without UL central station dispatch

Available dual-path cellular/Internet in the US or worldwide via Internet

powered by ADC

We have the web’s best pricing and feature mix for Alarm.com self-monitored interactive services.  If you own a compatible system from Qolsys, 2GIG, GE/Interlogix, DSC, or Honeywell we can help you start saving today!  If you don’t have an Alarm.com cellular (or dual-path) communicator installed check our Alarm Communicator page to see if you can add one.

Self-monitored security systems are exactly what they sound like, they are alarm systems you technically monitor yourself.  The key advantage is the cost savings over a professional UL central station dispatch plan while still retaining the modern interactive features that Alarm.com and their smartphone app provides. This includes not only notification of alarms and trouble issues at home received on the Alarm.com app but also remote arm and disarm control of your security system plus Z-Wave home automation and video options as well.

In areas where police response can be very slow the motivation for central station dispatch may not be very strong.  Its not for everyone. Many people just want interactive control of their alarm and home automation devices.

Keep in mind “you” are responsible for calling your local police, fire, or medical departments in the event of an emergency at home with self-monitoring.  If you miss the app alert on your phone or out of a WIFI or cellular service area an emergency may not be acted upon, at least in a timely manner.  This is why we always recommend 24×7 UL central station dispatch to customers.  Few insurance companies offer the typical 10% – 20% annual discount on premiums with self-monitored alarm systems.

For customers outside of the US our self-monitoring Alarm.com plans can be used anywhere in the world.  In the US connectivity to Alarm.com is via cellular or dual-path cellular / Internet.  But as long as you have Internet connectivity to Alarm.com you can use their interactive app and self-monitor a compatible system from outside the US!

Note: Existing Verizon 3G/CDMA communicators can no longer be activated (or reactivated) after June 30, 2019.  Currently activated cards will continue to operate until the Verizon 3G network shutdown December 31, 2022.  For new activations after the cutoff date you will need either a Verizon LTE or AT&T LTE cellular communicator.  Be aware many panels require a firmware update in order to use an LTE card.

How to save money on alarm monitoring

How Do I Save Money?

Important Questions and Considerations

Switching alarm monitoring providers is not difficult, but many providers don’t want you leaving and attempt to make it so.  With a much lower cost for real UL central station securiity monitoring, no required contracts, and overall better, friendly support, its a natural move.

  • Are you under an existing alarm monitoring contract?  Be careful because many contracts have auto renewal provisions that may lock you in for another 3 to 5 years at high pricing.  Also its common to have a 30 or 60 day termination notification period.  Are there any hidden termination fees they failed to mention?  Local dealers and even national dealers such as ADT make a LOT of money on alarm monitoring agreements so they will make it as hard as possible for customers to switch.
  • Do you own your alarm equipment?  Another reason to read your existing alarm agreement carefully.  ADT for example offers “free” home security systems when you sign up for their multiyear alarm monitoring plan.  Obviously nothing is free.  In this case the alarm company owns the main equipment such as control panel, keypad, motion sensor.  Anything added additional you would own but if you don’t renew their high priced plan they’ll remove “their” equipment leaving you with no working alarm system.  Just another sneaky method to retain highly profitable accounts.
  • Do you already have a cellular communicator?  This can be either as part of a plugin wireless system module or hardwired addon unit. Your alarm panel using a cellular communicator actually “talks” with an Interactive Services (IS) provider not the central station directly.

It is important to understand what alarm panel model you currently have as well as what Interactive Services provider is/was used. A cellular communicator compatible with Honeywell Alarmnet (Total Connect 2) will not work with any other provider such as SecureNet or Alarm.com.  Communicators are built for a particular Interactive Services provider, they are not universal unfortunately.  In general this is not a problem if you already like the IS provider you are using other than price your alarm dealer is charging for this service.

Large national alarm companies such as ADT  sometimes use proprietary communicators which will ONLY work with ADT.  If this is the case then a replacement cellular communicator would be required.  The breakeven for the replacement equipment cost however is usually less than four months.

  • Do you know the “Installer Code” for your alarm panel?   In many cases the installing alarm company did not provide this important code despite you owning the equipment.  The Installer Code is used to get into the programming area of your security system.  Since the Account Number used for the central station will need to be modified, getting into Program Mode is necessary.

If you do not know the Installer Code nicely ask your existing or previous alarm company for this code.  They know what it is since they used it to put their account information into your panel.  In some cases dealers will want to send a technician to your home to reset the code, and of course charge you for the visit ($100).  There is no reason why they can’t tell you this code over the phone. Don’t fall for this last chance to milk you!

Depending on the brand and model alarm control panel you own there may be a “back door” into your panel’s Program Mode if the Installer Code is not known.  Honeywell panels for example have an easy way to get into Program Mode if the code was forgotten or not provided.  Others however must be “factory reset” meaning it erases all current configuration (zones, passcodes, etc.) and acts like a new alarm panel out of the box.  Reprogramming the panel is generally not something you want to tackle on your own and requires a local dealer to assist.  Hopefully you know the Installer Code or can get it from the previous dealer without hassle.

** If you have a Honeywell brand alarm panel check our page on how to reset your panel’s Installer Code using the back door method.  Every brand panel has a default Installer Code which can also be tried, but it would be unusual for the installing dealer to not change it.  We know the default code for all brand alarm panels.

If upgrading a hardwired alarm system to cellular a universal communicator such as the Telguard TG1 the Installer Code will not be required since the unit will fool your alarm panel into thinking its still connected to a POTS line.  The TG1 will intercept the alarm panel’s signalling and change the account number automatically so there is no need to get into Program Mode at all. The Telguard TG1 is available in Verizon or AT&T LTE flavors.  We can program the Telguard TG1 remotely, and at no charge!

Steps Involved in switching alarm monitoring

Steps Involved

  • Make the purchase for UL Central Station Alarm Monitoring.  If you have an Alarm.com compatible cellular or dual-path cellular/Internet communicator select Alarm.com Alarm Monitoring.  Select billing period: Monthly, Six Months, Annual.  We get a prepay discount from our UL central station provider which we pass on to our customers.  Annual billing comes with a 15% discount for example.  This is NOT a contract, rather a prepay discount.

If your communicator is compatible with Interactive Services such as remote arm/disarm (Basic) or Z-Wave home automation (Enhanced), select these services as well if desired.  Internet or cellular service required for Interactive Services, not landline.

  • Complete our Alarm Monitoring Enrollment Form.  This details your address, telephone number to verify alarm before dispatch, passcode to validate user, zone information, etc.
  • Schedule your activation time and date.  In general we can get you online same day but we are here 7 days a week so pick a time convenient for you.
  • Change the account number in your control panel.  We will help you over the phone to make this minor change from your keypad.  This is where the Installer Code comes in.  If using the Telguard TG1 this step is not necessary because we will remotely program the cellular communicator with a new account number.
  • Test the changes.  We will have you arm your alarm system then trip a few zones to verify  signals are being properly received by the central station.  Its important we test all life safety zones such as smoke or carbon monoxide detectors!
  • We put your monitoring account online.  You are now fully protected with UL central station monitoring!
  • You will receive an email (generally within 30 minutes of going online) showing your account’s data with the central station.  Review this information to make sure your telephone numbers, address, etc. are correct.  You will also receive an Alarm Monitoring Certification for your homeowner insurance agent.  Most give a 10% – 20% annual premium discount for a monitored alarm system so its important to have this document.

Cellular Alarm Monitoring by SafeHomeCentral.com

Consider Cellular Alarm Monitoring

Land lines in homes are rapidly disappearing because of the high cost to maintain a phone line when frankly everyone in the home has a cell phone in their pocket.  For many alarm owners they’ve kept this obsolete communication medium in their home just for their alarm system.  Eliminating the POTS line and switching to celluar monitoring is actually a monthly savings, and increases security.

Phone lines are always at risk of being cut by an intruder before they attempt to break-in to your home. Land lines also have the added risk of being disabled by weather events such as a down tree taking down the communication path to your home during a storm or snow blizzard.  Cellular of course has no wires to be cut and the “communicator” is generally powered by your alarm panel which has a backup battery in case of power failure.

At just $14.95 per month for basic cellular monitoring its hard to hang on to a landline if just for your security system.  The additional $6 per month moving to cellular monitoring from landline ($8.95) is way less than the $40+ per month you pay for a POTS line.  Most homeowners save roughly $400 annually just switching to cellular alarm monitoring and ditching their land line.  While VoIP is a cheaper alternative for phone service its not a reliable medium for alarm signalling.

And homeowner insurance carriers love cellular alarm monitoring.  Be sure to check what premium discount they offer.  Most grant a 10%-20% annual savings!

  1. Kev K. says:

I have an older SafeWatch 3000 that I was able to get switched over to cellular alarm monitoring with these people. Unfortunately the 3G model I had would only work with ADT but was HAPPY to purchase a new 4G model just to move away from ADT. The breakeven for the equipment is four months with ongoing savings of $35 per month. The tech was friendly and helped me get everything setup and tested. If I had only known I could switch earlier!

  2. Vince P. says:

Moved my DSC hardwired panel over to Safehomecentral.com and surprised how easy it was. I’m using a landline through my cable provider and everything worked as expected. Tripped an alarm to test myself ater that evening amd got a call from their central station damn quick asking for my passcode. Was never this fast with ADT at triple the cost!

  3. Ron K. says:

Great presales support, great switchover support, great recommendations and help post sale. I already saved a lot on the monitoring moving away from ADT ($32/month in savings) but the help getting me set up with Wyze HD cameras was exceptional. Solid suggestions for DIY installation. It was apparent they use them too.

  4. James L. says:

I’ve used ADT for over ten years and had no clue I didnt have to use their expensive alarm monitoring until talking to my neignbor who pointed me to this site. I did have to change my cellular communicator for my SafeWatch Pro but the monthly savings paid for the communicator in just four months. My ADT cameras wouldnt move over but they were pretty old and Chris turned me on to the WYZE cameras which are higher resolution than my aging cameras and only $25! Wish I knew about SafeHomeCentral sooner. Highly recommend these people.

  5. Gary F. says:

I went from $58/month to just $18 and I don’t see any difference between the services. My insurance company continued my discount because I’m still using a UL central station. The Alarm.com app I’m using now is WAY better than the Pulse app I used previously with ADT.
